International Youth Internship Program (IYIP)
Jamaica | Application & selection process

The International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) in Jamaica offers 12 internships per year. Here are the main steps before participating. Apply now!

Eligibility criteria & registration

  • Have a post-secondary diploma (Cégep and above) or a DVS.
  • Be between the ages of 19 and 30 when the final selection is made.
  • A Canadian citizen or a permanent resident.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Hold a passport valid until six months after completion date of the internship.
  • Never have participated in the IYIP.
  • Have a basic knowledge of spoken and written English.

MAY 2019 | Interviews

After receiving the applications, our team will do a preselection. If selected for that stage, you will be contacted via email to confirm your eligibility and interest. You will then be contacted for an interview in Quebec City or via Skype. You will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Show the required profile, potential and aptitude to work in international development.
  • Have a good knowledge of the host country’s language and culture.

MAY/JUNE 2019 | Selection

The interview results will be emailed to you during the months of May or June.
If you pass the interview, we will send you an internship contract. You will have to sign it and return it to us. Once the contract is signed, your participation in the program is official.

JUNE/JULY 2019 | Pre-departure steps

You will receive several emails from our team to guide you through the pre-departure steps and organize the logistics of your departure.

SEPTEMBER 2019 | Pre-departure meeting in Quebec City

In order to prepare you for your internship assignment, an eight-day pre-departure meeting is organized in Quebec City with all selected interns. This meeting will address the following topics:

  • Logistics/safety.
  • Intercultural relations.
  • North-South relationships.
  • Results-based management.
  • Environment.
  • Gender equality.
  • Ethics.
  • Job search.

Essential information will be given during this meeting and attendance is mandatory to participate in the program.
